Method and assumptions
ESI coverage attaches when gross monthly wages are up to ₹21,000 (₹25,000 for persons with disability). Once an employee enters coverage, contribution must continue until the end of the current contribution period even if wages cross the ceiling mid-period.
Employee share is waived where the average daily wage is below ₹176; employer share continues at 3.25% (Rule 52).
Contribution periods: April-September and October-March. Benefit periods follow with a three-month lag.
